Gabriel's Stoppage-Time Winner Seals Arsenal Win
Arsenal came from behind to beat Newcastle 2-1 at St James' Park, with Nick Woltemade giving Newcastle the lead before Mikel Merino equalised in the 84th minute and Gabriel Magalhaes scored a stoppage-time winner (96'). Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope produced several key saves and a potential penalty was overturned by VAR, but Arsenal's late pressure told. The victory moved Arsenal to second in the Premier League and within two points of leaders Liverpool. Tensions spilled over at full-time when Joelinton was pictured pushing Arsenal coach Miguel Molina and exchanged words with manager Mikel Arteta as staff intervened. Eddie Howe called the defeat "intensely painful," voiced concern over Tino Livramento's knee injury — the full-back was stretchered off — and presided over a Newcastle side sitting 15th with one league win from six. Mikel Arteta hailed his team's mental fortitude and ambition, saying the comeback showed Arsenal are ready to "go to the next level."
