Hong Kong to Increase Work Injury Compensation Levels April 2025
Starting April 17, 2025, Hong Kong will increase compensation levels for work injuries and occupational diseases, with adjustments ranging from 3.8% to 86.3% across 18 compensation items. This change, announced by the Labour Department, aims to enhance protections for employees affected by work-related injuries and diseases. Additionally, the Employees’ Compensation Ordinance will be amended to improve the compensation system overall. In tandem, Hong Kong's public healthcare system will see significant reforms next year, including higher fees for non-urgent services to support patients with severe medical needs. The fee increases aim to generate an additional HK$3 billion annually, while also introducing a medical expense cap. These reforms are part of broader efforts to address the structural challenges within Hong Kong's healthcare system and ensure sustainable service delivery.
