Former Candidate Jenkins Endorses City Council President Sheffield Detroit Mayoral Race

Saunteel Jenkins, a former Detroit City Council president and nonprofit executive who ran a strong campaign in the 2025 mayoral primary, has officially endorsed Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield for mayor. Jenkins emphasized their shared focus on reducing gun violence and strengthening education, highlighting Sheffield as the most suitable candidate to address these critical issues. Sheffield, who won the August primary with over 50% of the vote, is positioned to become Detroit's first female mayor and has also received endorsements from outgoing Mayor Mike Duggan and the Detroit Regional Chamber Political Action Committee (PAC). The Chamber PAC praised Sheffield's leadership and her ability to maintain the city's momentum, making her the preferred candidate for the business community. Jenkins and Sheffield plan to collaborate on initiatives related to women in leadership, public safety, and education. The upcoming November general election will see Sheffield face Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr., marking a historic race without Duggan on the ballot for the first time in over a decade.
