American Passenger Disappears After Leaving Carnival Ship

Jessica Collins, 47, disappeared after disembarking the Carnival Horizon in Bonaire on Sept. 17 and did not return to the ship, prompting a missing-person investigation. Carnival says surveillance stills show Collins leaving the ship with a gray backpack, that she left a cash gratuity and thank-you note for her stateroom attendant, and that she texted the ship’s Care Team saying she was safe and did not want to be found or contacted. Bonaire authorities, working with the Port Authority, Tourism Corporation Bonaire, Carnival security and U.S. officials, conducted an island-wide search, released CCTV images and urged anyone with information to call an anonymous tip line (9310) or local police (715 8000). Reports differ about whether additional luggage or personal items were left behind, and Carnival maintains the disappearance appears to be a deliberate decision to be alone. The Carnival Horizon later returned to Miami after the southern Caribbean itinerary and authorities say cooperation with partners and the investigation continue.
