Freeze Warnings Oct. 27–29 Threaten Crops, Travel
The National Weather Service has issued multiple freeze warnings and watches for Oct. 27–29 across the country, affecting western and central New York (including Buffalo and Rochester), Putnam County, northern Colorado (Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins and surrounding suburbs), the Albuquerque and Santa Fe metros, Lubbock, Texas, and areas around Capitol Reef in southern Utah. Forecast lows are generally in the upper 20s to low 30s, with northern Colorado seeing 24–32°F (and 18–26°F in some spots Wednesday) and southern Utah reporting sub-freezing readings near 30°F at lower elevations. Officials warn frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and sensitive vegetation and may damage unprotected outdoor plumbing and sprinkler systems. Residents are urged to protect tender plants, wrap or drain pipes or allow outdoor faucets to drip, and take precautions for people and pets; Albuquerque advisories note a gusty cold front with little to no rain that may worsen drought. In southern Utah the freeze threat coincides with a winter weather advisory that brings mountain snow and hazardous high‑elevation travel conditions.
