Home Invasion Leaves Fitchburg Woman Injured

A Fitchburg woman, Melanie Russell, was hospitalized after being violently attacked in her home by a man and a woman during an apparent home invasion on Thursday afternoon. The assailants kicked down her door, used a crowbar and a stun gun on her, and demanded to know the whereabouts of a package, which Russell claims she does not have. Police have classified the incident as targeted and reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat, although they are actively investigating the connection between the attackers and the victim. Russell's dog intervened during the attack, allowing her to escape. Authorities are seeking information from the community and have noted earlier reports of suspicious individuals in the area. The victim has since been released from the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
