Tottenham completes Xavi Simons medical in £52m RB Leipzig transfer

Tottenham Hotspur have secured the signing of RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons for a reported fee of around £52 million (€60 million), successfully completing his medical and agreeing personal terms. The 22-year-old Dutch attacking midfielder, who can play as a number 10 or wide, was a target for both Tottenham and Chelsea, but Spurs overtook Chelsea by submitting a firm bid after Leipzig granted Simons permission to leave their training camp. Chelsea, while interested and having agreed personal terms with Simons, did not make a formal bid due to financial constraints and their focus on player sales, including the imminent transfer of Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan. Tottenham’s pursuit of Simons intensified following failed attempts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, with the latter deal falling through after Arsenal intervened. This transfer is seen as a significant boost for Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank, who has been eager to strengthen the attacking midfield options. Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schafer had indicated the club’s openness to a transfer if the offer made economic sense, which this deal evidently met.
