Red Cross Warns Gaza City Evacuation Impossible Amid Humanitarian Crisis

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Mirjana Spoljaric has warned that a mass evacuation of Gaza City is impossible to conduct safely or with dignity under current conditions. The evacuation would cause a massive population displacement that no area in the Gaza Strip can absorb due to widespread destruction and severe shortages of food, water, shelter, and medical care. Many civilians, including those who are starving, sick, injured, or disabled, would be unable to comply with evacuation orders. International humanitarian law requires Israel to ensure safe conditions and access to basic needs for civilians during evacuations, but these conditions cannot currently be met in Gaza. Spoljaric called for the immediate flow of humanitarian aid, the release of hostages by Hamas, and a ceasefire to prevent further death, destruction, and displacement amid the ongoing conflict. Israel continues its military operations in Gaza, aiming to dismantle Hamas, while facing international concern over the humanitarian crisis.
