India's Data Centre Industry Sees Significant Growth
India's data centre industry is poised for significant growth, with an expected increase of 604 MW in capacity between H2 2024 and 2026, supported by advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and the rollout of 5G technology. By mid-2024, the industry reached a capacity of 917 MW with a high occupancy rate of 873 MW, reflecting a robust 24% compound annual growth rate over the past four-and-a-half years. The government has approved a substantial USD 1.24 billion investment in AI infrastructure to further boost this expansion, which is projected to require 7.3 million square feet of real estate and USD 3.8 billion in capital investment. Key hubs such as Navi Mumbai are emerging, with anticipated demand reaching 800 MW in the coming years. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh is also looking to capitalize on this boom through a new Data Centre Policy aimed at creating 2 million jobs and attracting investments. This collective growth is set to solidify India's position as a global leader in technology and digital infrastructure.
