Despite her team raising awareness for nearly two years, this is the first time Geingos has addressed the issue directly, highlighting a significant increase in scams targeting citizens over the past two months. Manipulated videos and fake accounts on social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X appear to show her endorsing these scams, often using genuine footage and dubbing her voice. Geingos reiterated that she is not involved in forex trading and urged the public not to engage with these fraudulent accounts. The issue has affected many, including individuals who have lost their retirement savings, prompting calls from her office for more vigilance against such scams. Cybersecurity experts warn that these types of scams are a growing threat, particularly in Africa.
