James Bobin in Talks to Direct Live-Action Dragon's Lair for Netflix

James Bobin, known for directing The Muppets films and episodes of Disney's Percy Jackson and the Olympians, is in talks to direct the live-action Netflix adaptation of the iconic 1983 arcade game Dragon's Lair. Ryan Reynolds remains attached to star as Dirk the Daring and produce the film alongside Roy Lee, Trevor Engelson, and the original game's creators Don Bluth, Gary Goldman, and Jon Pomeroy. The screenplay is being written by Dan and Kevin Hageman, who worked on The Lego Movie and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Dragon's Lair was revolutionary for its time, featuring laserdisc technology and animation by Don Bluth Studios, and centered on Dirk's quest to rescue Princess Daphne from the dragon Singe and wizard Mordroc. The project, first acquired by Netflix in 2020, has taken several years to develop but continues moving forward with hopes that Bluth may be involved in the adaptation.
