Sweden Plans Air, Naval Support for Ukraine Security

Sweden, under Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, is prepared to support Ukraine by contributing airspace monitoring and naval resources, emphasizing that it has not committed to deploying ground troops. Kristersson highlighted the importance of enabling Ukraine to take credible responsibility for its own defense to deter further Russian aggression, rather than relying on large troop deployments from other countries. This stance follows recent summits involving US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and European leaders, where security guarantees for Kyiv were discussed but not finalized. Sweden's contributions aim to strengthen regional air and maritime security, enhance cooperation with NATO and European partners, and improve intelligence sharing and joint training efforts. The Swedish government views this support as a significant measure to uphold Ukraine's sovereignty and security without direct military engagement on the ground. Sweden also remains open to participating in post-war peacekeeping efforts in Ukraine.
