Widow of NYPD Detective Killed in Manhattan Shooting Gives Birth to Third Son

The widow of NYPD Detective Didarul Islam, who was killed in a July mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue in Manhattan, gave birth to their third son, Arham, shortly after the tragedy. Islam, an immigrant from Bangladesh and a dedicated officer with the 47th Precinct, was working an approved off-duty security detail when the gunman opened fire, killing four people including Islam before taking his own life. Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch expressed their condolences and commitment to supporting Islam's family, emphasizing that the family is part of the New York City community. Islam's widow, Jamila Akhter, was eight months pregnant at the time of the shooting and already had two young sons, Ahyan and Azhaan. The family is receiving community support, including a GoFundMe campaign to honor Islam's legacy and provide for his family. Islam was posthumously promoted to detective, recognizing his service and sacrifice.
