Laureus Academy Revokes Jannik Sinner's Sportsman Nomination After Doping Ban

The Laureus Academy has withdrawn Jannik Sinner's nomination for the World Sportsman of the Year Award following his acceptance of a three-month doping ban after two positive tests for the banned substance clostebol. Although Sinner claimed that the substance entered his system inadvertently during therapies, the Academy determined that the ban rendered him ineligible for the nomination. Despite this setback, Sinner enjoyed a stellar 2024 season, winning eight titles, including two Grand Slam tournaments. The withdrawal of his nomination was confirmed by the Academy's chairman, Sean Fitzpatrick, who acknowledged the extenuating circumstances but emphasized the necessity of adhering to eligibility standards. Sinner's suspension will end on May 4, allowing him to return in time for the French Open. The Laureus World Sports Awards nominations are set to be announced in Madrid on March 3.
