Multiple US City Pools Close Amid Summer Heat, Boston Closures Persist

Several public swimming pools across various cities are undergoing closures or renovations this summer, impacting community access. The North Bay YMCA pool will close for about 13 weeks starting July 1 for major upgrades including a full pool deck replacement and gutter improvements, supported by $700,000 in city funding, with alternative aquatic fitness programs offered during the closure. In New York City, some outdoor pools in boroughs like the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens faced temporary closures or service changes shortly after the summer season began, with most expected to reopen within a day. Boston will keep at least five of its 20 public pools closed throughout the summer, limiting options for swimmers. The Pimlico Recreation Center and its family pool will close for quarterly maintenance on July 1. Conversely, Polop’s municipal swimming pool reopened on June 27 following extensive upgrades including new facilities, accessibility improvements, and enhanced safety features, with free access for registered residents and low fees for others.
