Elmira Bicyclist Dies After Collision With Motorhome in Horseheads

Timothy Maney, a 75-year-old man from Elmira, died after his bicycle collided with a 2025 motorhome in the Town of Horseheads. The crash occurred near the intersection of Lake Road and Owens Street when Maney, who was riding southbound on the shoulder, suddenly entered the driving lane and was struck by the motorhome traveling in the same direction. Maney was transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and later died. An investigation by the Chemung County Sheriff's Office determined that Maney was at fault, and no charges will be filed against the motorhome driver. Emergency responders from Elmira Heights and Erway Ambulance assisted at the scene. Separately, a fatal motorcycle crash in Elmira Heights on July 22 resulted in the death of John T. Simpson, 27, with investigations ongoing.
