Trial of Former Northern Ireland Politician Jeffrey Donaldson and Wife Delayed Until 2026 Amid Health and Investigation Delays

The trial of former Northern Ireland politician Jeffrey Donaldson and his wife Eleanor, accused of historical sex offences, has been delayed until 2026 due to ongoing health concerns regarding Eleanor Donaldson. The charges against Jeffrey Donaldson, who has pleaded not guilty, include one count of rape, 13 counts of indecent assault on a female child, and four counts of gross indecency related to incidents between 1985 and 2008 involving two complainants. Eleanor Donaldson faces charges of aiding and abetting rape, which she also denies. The trial, originally scheduled for November 3, was postponed by Judge Paul Ramsey as the court awaits a complete medical report on Eleanor's condition. Both defendants did not attend the latest hearing at Newry Crown Court. The delays highlight the ongoing complexities surrounding the case against the former DUP leader and his wife.
