Poland Extends Household Electricity Price Freeze
Several European countries are taking measures to control electricity prices amid rising energy costs. In France, the competition authority is advocating for the removal of regulated electricity prices (TRVE) to foster competition, while the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) supports maintaining TRVE for five more years to stabilize consumer prices. Slovakia has decided to extend its household electricity price cap through 2025, capping prices at 61 euros per MWh to mitigate inflation pressures. Poland is also freezing electricity prices for households at 500 zloty per MWh for the first nine months of 2025, while discontinuing subsidies for businesses and local authorities due to expected improvements in their market positions. These measures come as governments balance the need to protect consumers with the ongoing pressures of inflation and energy market fluctuations.
