Thai Woman Sentenced to Death for Murders

Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, a 36-year-old Thai woman, has been sentenced to death for the murder of her friend Siriporn Khanwong using cyanide, marking the first of 14 trials linked to multiple poisonings since 2015. The court found her guilty of a chilling pattern of deceit where she targeted friends to whom she owed money, poisoning them and stealing their valuables to fund her gambling addiction. Siriporn collapsed during a Buddhist ritual and was later found with traces of cyanide in her system. Sararat's ex-husband and lawyer received prison sentences for their roles in concealing evidence. The sentencing has provoked widespread outrage and concern over trust within social circles, prompting discussions about the regulation of toxic substances. Sararat faces additional trials and has been charged with around 80 offenses in total.
