NHRA drag racing legend John Force has been released from the Barrow Neurological Institute after undergoing rehabilitation for a traumatic brain injury caused by a fiery crash at the Virginia Nationals last month. The 75-year-old, who also sustained a fractured sternum in the incident, will continue his recovery on an outpatient basis in California, allowing him to finally sleep in his own bed, according to his daughter, Ashley Hood. The crash occurred during the first round of Funny Car eliminations, where a catastrophic engine failure led to his car slamming into both the left and right concrete guard walls. Despite previous serious injuries from a 2007 crash, Force has continued to race at a high level, securing his 157th NHRA victory this season. The racing community and his family have expressed relief at his discharge and hope for his continued recovery.
