UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson Fatally Shot in NYC

Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was fatally shot in a targeted attack outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan on December 4, 2024. The incident occurred around 6:46 a.m. as Thompson was arriving for an investor conference, which was subsequently canceled due to the shooting. Surveillance photos show the masked assailant using a long handgun before fleeing the scene on foot. Thompson was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after. Police are actively searching for the shooter, who is described as a white male wearing a black mask and a gray backpack. Thompson had been with UnitedHealth Group since 2004 and became CEO in 2021.
