X Launches Bitcoin Tipping Integration for 500 Million Users

Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has launched Bitcoin tipping through a third-party integration with BitBit, a self-custodial wallet that operates via Chrome-compatible browsers and leverages Lightspark's Spark technology built on the Lightning Network. This feature allows users to send and receive Bitcoin tips directly on X, with recipients having 21 days to claim funds before automatic refunds. The integration is not a native X product but aligns with Musk’s vision of transforming X into an all-in-one “super app” similar to China’s WeChat, incorporating social networking, messaging, payments, and financial services. Despite Musk’s known support for Dogecoin, the tipping feature currently supports only Bitcoin, trading above $115,000 at launch. BitBit’s user-friendly interface aims to simplify Bitcoin transactions by eliminating technical complexities and enabling micro-payments with near-instant, low-cost settlements. This rollout represents a significant step toward wider digital currency adoption and the creation of a global creator economy on the platform.
