Dorchester Man Arrested for Detonating Homemade Explosive in Chelsea
Douglas MacMillan, a 40-year-old resident of Dorchester, was arrested and charged with possession of an incendiary device and malicious explosion after a homemade explosive detonated near a residential walkway in Chelsea, Massachusetts. The incident occurred on Sunday next to a tree between apartment complexes on Revere Beach Parkway, causing a significant public disturbance but no injuries. MacMillan was apprehended on Tuesday following an investigation involving surveillance footage. The Chelsea Police Department, in collaboration with the Chelsea Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, swiftly identified and arrested MacMillan. He was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on Wednesday. Chelsea Police Chief Keith Houghton emphasized the importance of decisive enforcement, especially with upcoming major events like the Boston Marathon and Chelsea’s 250th celebration.
