Reflecting on his experience with Marvel's Black Widow, Winstone praised director Cate Shortland and initially enjoyed developing his villainous character, Dreykov, but grew frustrated when Marvel demanded reshoots for all his scenes, prompting him to request a recast. He described the reshoot process as a form of rejection that diminished his enthusiasm for the project. Winstone's comments echo broader concerns about Hollywood's shift towards commercial blockbuster productions at the expense of culturally significant films. Despite these frustrations, Winstone acknowledged that Marvel films have their place but stressed the need to support cultural cinema for the benefit of actors and the art form.
