Telford Council receives £500,000 funding boost for homeless support

Telford & Wrekin Council has received an additional £500,000 for the 2025/26 financial year to support vulnerable individuals and prevent homelessness, building on their success in preventing over 300 cases of homelessness and securing move-on accommodation for over 460 people this year. The funding also includes £19,706 for winter pressures, aimed at providing emergency accommodation for rough sleepers during colder months. Meanwhile, Columbus City Council has amended Mayor Andrew Ginther's proposed 2025 budget to include $5 million in funding for homeless shelters, raising their allocation to $10.7 million; however, this still falls short of the $13.6 million needed to maintain current services. The budget is described as the tightest in over a decade, highlighting the growing challenges Columbus faces regarding homelessness. Council members emphasize the need for long-term solutions to address increased housing instability. Both councils underscore the critical importance of funding to combat homelessness and support affected individuals and families.
