Recent warnings have emerged regarding a surge in scam calls impersonating GP surgeries, with individuals receiving unsolicited calls that request personal information under the guise of updating contact details. Reports indicate that these calls often originate from '07' numbers and may feature messages in both English and Chinese, prompting recipients to press a number to proceed. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Ochil Medical Practice have both alerted patients that legitimate GP practices will never ask for financial details via phone. Patients are advised to hang up immediately if they suspect a scam and to contact their GP directly using official numbers. Anti-fraud specialists recommend using call-blocking tools and reporting suspicious calls to the relevant authorities.
