Bangladesh Seeks Interpol Red Notice for Sheikh Hasina

The interim government of Bangladesh plans to request INTERPOL to issue red notices for fugitives, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in connection with the July-August killings, according to Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul. He emphasized that the government is committed to repatriating these individuals for trial at the International Crimes Tribunal. Nazrul dismissed allegations made by the Awami League as baseless and claimed they aim to mislead public opinion. The Chief Prosecutor has indicated that investigations are ongoing and that trials against the Awami League as a political party will commence following government direction. While red notices are being sought, the interim government previously indicated that extradition from India would not be pursued immediately to avoid diplomatic tensions. The trial for the July killings is set to begin next week.
