Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson, a fifth-generation logger from Allagash, has announced his candidacy for governor in the 2026 election, joining a Democratic primary field that includes Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, Kenneth Pinet, and Angus King III. Jackson, who recently termed out after six years as Senate president, campaigns on working-class issues and criticizes party elites and corporations for neglecting everyday Mainers amid rising costs and stagnant wages. He pledges to fight for loggers, farmers, teachers, nurses, fishermen, first responders, and small business owners, drawing on his experience with labor protests and a rural upbringing. During his legislative tenure, Jackson championed lowering prescription drug costs, universal school meals, and increased funding for rural hospitals and veterans’ homes.
