New York Woman Charged with Animal Cruelty After Allegedly Punching Dog 36 Times in West Haven

A 28-year-old woman from Merrick, New York, named Sherin Monachan, has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly being caught on surveillance video punching her dog approximately 36 times while parked outside a business in West Haven, Connecticut. The incident occurred on February 14, when a local business reported the suspected animal cruelty to the police around 12:10 p.m. Video footage reviewed by West Haven Animal Control showed Monachan striking the dog multiple times in various parts of its body between 9:40 and 9:50 a.m. Following the investigation, Monachan was arrested and is currently being held on bond at the West Haven Police Department. The dog has been seized and is being kept in a safe location until a court ruling is made. The investigation is ongoing as authorities address the serious nature of the allegations.
