Nationals Sign Japanese Lefty Ogasawara to Two-Year Deal

The Washington Nationals have signed Japanese left-handed pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara to a two-year contract worth $3.5 million. This marks the first time the Nationals have signed a player directly from Asia. Ogasawara, who was posted by the NPB's Chunichi Dragons, had until Friday to finalize the deal. Last season, he recorded a 5-11 record with a 3.12 ERA and 82 strikeouts over 144 1/3 innings. He brings a career ERA of 3.67, with significant experience in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball. To make room for Ogasawara on their roster, the Nationals designated left-hander Joe La Sorsa for assignment.
