Ford Recalls 694,000 Bronco, Escape SUVs Over Fuel Leak Fire Risk

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles from model years 2021 to 2024 and 2020 to 2022, respectively, due to a risk of fuel injector cracks that can cause fuel leaks and potentially lead to engine fires. The recall follows a year-long federal investigation after previous software-based fixes failed to address the underlying mechanical issue, and includes vehicles already serviced under prior recalls. Ford is issuing an interim software update to detect fuel injector leaks and mitigate fire risk while developing a permanent mechanical fix. The fuel injectors, supplied by Italian manufacturer Dumarey Flowmotion Technologies, can allow gasoline to leak into the engine bay and accumulate near ignition sources, posing a fire hazard; at least eight under-hood fires have been reported, though no injuries have occurred. This recall is part of a broader wave of recalls by Ford in 2025, which has already surpassed last year’s total, and is expected to cost the company around $570 million, impacting its second quarter financial results. Affected owners will be notified by mail and offered free repairs at dealerships once the permanent remedy becomes available.
