Kodak Black Faces $10.6M Lawsuit Over 2022 LA Super Bowl Shooting

Kodak Black is the sole defendant in a $10.6 million lawsuit filed by Mark Schaefer and Adam Rahman, who claim they were shot alongside the rapper during a 2022 shooting outside Justin Bieber's Super Bowl afterparty in Los Angeles. The plaintiffs allege Kodak initiated the altercation that led to the gunfire, but Kodak’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, vehemently denies these claims, asserting that Kodak was actually a victim who tried to help others during the fight and was also wounded. Cohen further contends that Kodak was never properly served with the lawsuit, as legal documents were mistakenly sent to an outdated address, and calls the lawsuit a baseless legal assault. A judge vacated the scheduled trial date and denied the plaintiffs' requests to declare Kodak in default due to insufficient evidence of damages, giving them until August 25 to resubmit their motion. The lawsuit initially included Bieber and the venue’s owners, but they were dismissed after the court ruled the shooting was not foreseeable by the restaurant and Bieber was voluntarily dropped. Despite the ongoing legal battle, Kodak recently received public honors, including a key to North Miami, and has expressed gratitude for the recognition.
