Anas Said, a 28-year-old Houston resident, has been arrested and charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS, with plans for a terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Said allegedly operated multiple social media accounts to promote ISIS and was involved in creating propaganda supporting the terrorist group. Authorities have stated that he researched local military recruitment centers for potential attacks and expressed a willingness to commit a '9/11-style' attack if he had the means. The FBI had been monitoring Said since 2017 after he purchased ISIS-related stickers, and he has since been under investigation for his suspected extremist activities. His arrest was carried out by the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, and he faces a potential federal prison sentence of up to 20 years. A detention hearing is scheduled in Houston federal court.
