Singapore Plans Autonomous Shuttle Rollout in Punggol From 2026
Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) will progressively deploy three fixed-route autonomous shuttle services in Punggol starting in the second quarter of 2026 to improve first-mile-last-mile connectivity and reduce travel times by up to 15 minutes. Grab will operate two routes using autonomous vehicles developed by WeRide, while ComfortDelGro will operate one route with vehicles co-developed with Pony.ai. The shuttles, identifiable by their bright purple livery and designed to carry five to eight passengers, will initially run with safety operators on board during a testing and free community trial phase before full public service begins. The first route will connect Matilda Court and Punggol Clover to the Oasis Terraces polyclinic and Punggol Plaza, with subsequent routes serving Punggol Northshore and linking residents to key amenities such as One Punggol and Punggol Coast Mall. Authorities highlight that these autonomous shuttles will serve harder-to-reach parts of Punggol, complement the existing public bus network, and are part of a broader plan to increase the number of self-driving vehicles in the town by the end of 2026. Officials also emphasized safety measures and community engagement during the phased rollout to ensure smooth operation and public acceptance.
