Kamila Valieva to Resume Skating After Ban

Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva has announced her intention to return to competitive skating after serving a four-year ban for a doping violation, which is set to end in late 2025. At 18 years old, Valieva believes she is still young enough to continue her career, stating her last performance was subpar and she doesn't want to abandon her aspirations. She is currently focusing on regaining her confidence in key elements like the triple toe loop and double Axel, planning to introduce more complex routines upon her return. The ban, imposed following her positive test for the banned substance trimetazidine at the December 2021 national championships, resulted in the Russian Olympic Committee losing their gold medal from the 2022 Beijing Winter Games. Valieva's team maintains that the positive result may have stemmed from a mix-up with her grandfather's medication, while the Kremlin has denounced the ruling as politically motivated.
