In response, VW has halted production at its Chattanooga plant, furloughing approximately 200 employees starting September 23, and is supplementing their unemployment benefits to maintain 80% of their base compensation. VW is working on a remedy for the defect but has not provided a timeline for resuming production. Despite the production halt, VW remains committed to the ID.4 and its BEV portfolio, emphasizing that the ID.4 continues to be one of America's best-selling electric vehicles. This development coincides with VW Chattanooga employees' recent vote to unionize, making them the first outside the Detroit Three with UAW representation.
