Motorola to Acquire Silvus Technologies for Up to $5B

Motorola Solutions has agreed to acquire Silvus Technologies, a Los Angeles-based provider of advanced wireless communications systems, for up to $5 billion. The deal consists of approximately $4.4 billion in up-front cash, about $20 million in restricted stock for select employees, and an earnout of up to $600 million tied to Silvus' performance through 2028. Silvus specializes in software-defined mobile ad-hoc network technology, which supports secure voice, video, and data communications without fixed infrastructure for defense, law enforcement, and enterprise customers globally. The acquisition aims to combine Silvus' technology with Motorola's global reach to enhance secure, high-performance communications, especially in mission-critical and military settings. The transaction is expected to close in the third or fourth quarter of 2025. This deal comes as Motorola seeks to expand its defense tech portfolio amid rising demand for secure communications and despite forecasting weaker profits due to higher material costs and uncertain U.S. trade policy.
