Two Indian Navy women officers, Lt Commander Roopa A and Lt Commander Dilna K, are set to embark on a significant sailing expedition to circumnavigate the globe aboard the INSV Tarini, as part of the 'Navika Sagar Parikrama II'. After three years of rigorous preparation, the expedition aims to showcase women's growing prominence in maritime activities and the Indian Navy's commitment to preserving sailing traditions. Both officers bring extensive experience, having previously participated in trans-oceanic voyages and dual-handed expeditions to locations like Rio de Janeiro and Mauritius. The Navy emphasized that this challenging journey will require exceptional skills, physical fitness, and mental resilience, with the officers being mentored by renowned circumnavigator Cdr Abhilash Tomy (Retd.). The expedition is a continuation of India's efforts to enhance its maritime capabilities and promote gender equality at sea.
