Federal Judge Orders Closure of UCLA Stadium by Thursday

U.S. District Judge David O. Carter has ordered the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to lock down UCLA's Jackie Robinson Stadium by noon Thursday. The decision follows Carter's ruling that UCLA and other entities illegally leased land on the VA's West Los Angeles campus without primarily benefiting veterans, as originally intended. The judge found UCLA's proposal to repurpose the stadium grounds for veterans inadequate and also threatened severe actions against other leaseholders, including the Brentwood School. Carter's ruling demands the termination of these leases and mandates the construction of additional housing units for veterans. The VA argued that the court's orders would financially burden the department and hinder its efforts to address veteran homelessness. Carter plans to visit the campus to ensure compliance with his orders.
