Aaron Sorkin to Direct Film on Al Schwimmer

Warner Bros. has partnered with Aaron Sorkin to develop a film about Al Schwimmer, a key figure in the establishment of the Israeli Air Force, based on the article 'America’s Greatest Gift to Israel' by David Kushner. Schwimmer, a decorated WWII veteran from Connecticut, orchestrated a covert operation in 1948 to smuggle 125 military planes and over 50,000 weapons to Israel, defying a U.S. embargo. His team included a diverse group of WWII veterans and figures from organized crime, which contributed significantly to Israel's military capability during its War of Independence. The film is described as a mix of 'Argo' and 'Mission: Impossible' and aims to highlight Schwimmer's complex moral choices amid the backdrop of post-Holocaust challenges.
