Interim Matildas coach Tom Sermanni has emphasized that the captaincy of Sam Kerr is not a focal issue for the team, as they prepare for the SheBelieves Cup. Sermanni has praised current captain Stephanie Catley for her leadership and stated that Kerr’s captaincy status will be addressed in the future, possibly after his tenure. The priority for the team is Kerr's recovery and return to the field, while the team focuses on upcoming competitions, including the AFC Asian Cup. Despite public discussions about her leadership role, the Matildas are concentrating on their current objectives without Kerr’s immediate involvement. Football Australia has not yet made a decision regarding Kerr's captaincy status.
