Two Men Sentenced Over Separate Fatal, Violent Shootings in Tennessee, Illinois
Two men involved in separate shooting incidents were sentenced to lengthy prison terms in 2025. Legraine Devon Poston Jr. of Chattanooga received 47 years for a double shooting in February 2023 that resulted in the death of Keyshawn Kidd and the serious injury of Kiara Brooks; Poston fired multiple shots after being attacked and fled the scene without rendering aid. Meanwhile, Kejuan McFarland of Urbana was sentenced to 20 years for shooting a man during a robbery at a Champaign hotel in June 2024; after a plea deal, charges of attempted murder and armed robbery were dismissed. McFarland shot the victim in the chest after a gun misfired during a robbery attempt, then stole cash and fled. Surveillance footage and witness testimony were crucial in identifying McFarland as the shooter, who will serve 85% of his sentence with credit for time served. Both cases highlight violent encounters resulting in significant prison sentences aimed at enhancing public safety.
