In response to recent safety threats and incidents at school sporting events, both James Island High School and Pittsburgh Public Schools are enforcing new security measures. At James Island, starting September 20, students are barred from loitering on the blacktop, must be accompanied by adults, and only clear bags are permitted. Pittsburgh Public Schools will require high school students to show IDs, younger students to be chaperoned by adults, and will close gates at the beginning of the third quarter. Additionally, no outside food or drinks, except unopened water bottles, will be allowed. These measures are in addition to existing ones like metal detectors and police presence to ensure safer environments at school events.
