Typhoon Bualoi Causes Dozens of Deaths, Widespread Flooding Across Vietnam and Thailand
Typhoon Bualoi has caused severe flooding, landslides, and widespread damage across Vietnam and Thailand, resulting in at least 26 confirmed deaths and many missing individuals. In Vietnam, heavy rains led to flash floods and landslides, isolating communities and forcing evacuations, especially in northern provinces like Son La, Lao Cai, and Yen Bai, where water levels rose significantly. Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported persistent flooding in 17 provinces, affecting over 269,000 people and causing seven deaths, with ongoing heavy rains expected to continue. The hardest-hit areas in Thailand include Ayutthaya, Phimai in Nakhon Ratchasima, and Sa Kaeo, where flooding has damaged homes, schools, farmland, and infrastructure, prompting evacuations and suspension of services. Authorities in both countries are actively monitoring the situation, issuing warnings, and deploying relief efforts, but the storm's lingering presence and global warming effects exacerbate the impact and risks. The typhoon has also affected neighboring Laos and Myanmar as it weakens, continuing to bring heavy rainfall to the region.
