Food giants Danone and Ajinomoto have launched a partnership aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the dairy industry through the use of Ajinomoto's AjiPro-L, a rumen-protected lysine formulation. This initiative targets multiple sources of emissions, notably methane from livestock, which the UN identifies as a major contributor to climate change. AjiPro-L is projected to reduce nitrous oxide emissions from manure by approximately 25% and, when used with methane reduction additives, can enhance their effectiveness by about 30%. The partnership aligns with Danone's commitment to improving its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) credentials while supporting dairy farmers' margins. Furthermore, the utilization of AjiPro-L is expected to lower the carbon footprint associated with soybean meal procurement by around 20%. This collaboration follows a previous alliance among major dairy companies announced during COP28 to address methane emissions.
