Night Closures on SH1 in Ashburton Begin March 30

Motorists in Ashburton should prepare for significant disruptions as night work begins on State Highway 1 (SH1) from March 30 to May 9 for resurfacing. The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) will undertake the work primarily overnight from 8pm to 6am, but daytime traffic will also be affected due to ongoing traffic management. Detours will be implemented, and drivers are advised to allow an extra 30 minutes for travel after 8pm and to avoid peak times when possible. Over the course of the five weeks, traffic management will include Stop/Go controls and full highway closures. Notably, there will be a pause in work over the Easter weekend, and SH1 will reopen daily by 6am with temporary speed limits. This project coincides with KiwiRail's maintenance work on the SH1 rail crossing to prevent future disruptions.
