The new version, penned by Katherine Jakeways and Roanne Bardsley, will explore the rags-to-riches journey of Emma Harte, who rises from an impoverished maid in Yorkshire to one of the world's wealthiest women. This eight-part adaptation aims to maintain the original's relevance while appealing to modern audiences, reflecting themes of female empowerment and determination. The announcement was part of a broader strategy by Channel 4's new drama commissioning boss, Ollie Madden, to enhance the drama slate and double the network's drama budget.
