New Adaptation of Chekhov's The Seagull Announced

Duncan Macmillan and Thomas Ostermeier's new adaptation of Chekhov's 'The Seagull' is set to premiere at the Barbican Theatre in London for a limited six-week run from February 26 to April 5, 2025. The cast features Cate Blanchett as Arkadina, Tom Burke as Trigorin, Emma Corrin as Nina, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Konstantin, alongside other notable actors including Priyanga Burford, Zachary Hart, Paul Higgins, Tanya Reynolds, and Jason Watkins. The play, directed by Ostermeier, explores themes of artistic ambition and personal conflict among a group of artists at a country estate. Tickets will start at £20, with over 100 available at that price for each performance. The adaptation is praised for its innovative approach, with a creative team that includes set designer Magda Willi and sound designer Tom Gibbons. Previews will begin on February 26, 2025, ahead of the official opening on March 6.
