The immersion of Hyderabad's tallest Ganesh idol, a 70-foot statue from Khairatabad, commenced on September 17 amid tight security and festive celebrations, with the idol expected to be immersed in Hussain Sagar Lake by noon. This year's Ganesh Chaturthi festivities saw the installation of approximately one lakh idols across the city, with elaborate arrangements made for the immersion, including deployment of 25,000 police personnel and 468 cranes. Meanwhile, Ahmedabad reported the immersion of over 22,000 Ganesh idols in 49 designated ponds, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar set up artificial tanks and collection centers to facilitate eco-friendly immersions. Controversy arose in Hyderabad as the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti violated a High Court order by forcibly immersing idols before the official date. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has established extensive measures to ensure smooth immersion, including 733 CCTV cameras and 15,000 personnel on duty. As communities across India engage in this traditional ritual, the focus remains on balancing festive celebrations with environmental considerations.
