Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil has criticized Union Minister Piyush Goyal's proposal for a new 'Silicon Valley' in India, asserting that Bengaluru, recognized as the Silicon Valley of India, took decades to develop and should be regarded as the country's hub for innovation. Goyal had suggested creating dedicated townships for startups and innovators, prompting Patil to emphasize that Bengaluru is already a well-established ecosystem. He urged Goyal to support the ambitious Knowledge, Health, Innovation, and Research (KHIR) City project, which aims to attract Rs 40,000 crores in investment and create around 80,000 jobs. The KHIR City is proposed to be located between Dabaspet and Doddaballapur, focused on sectors like mobility and life sciences. Patil's remarks reflect ongoing tensions between the Karnataka government and the central administration regarding investment and development priorities.
